Stories of Enrichment:

Joseph Fisher, South Florida ’95

“My life is enriched daily because of Beta Theta Pi, as my best friends have come as a result of my undergraduate experience at the Zeta Beta Chapter at South Florida. As I approach twenty years as a Beta, the brotherhood, friendships and love I’ve experienced from this Great and Good Fraternity have not diminished. Over the years we’ve participated in weddings of brothers, welcomed our sons and daughters into the world, and today we watch our children grow and become young men and women. I am part of a great group of friends who often vacation together and all have strong ties to Beta Theta Pi, and I give back with the hope that other young men will be as blessed as I have been.”

James Lawler, Missouri ’60

“Joining the Zeta Phi Chapter at the University of Missouri was an enriching experience which bonded me with a wonderful group of men. We learned how to help each other grow and the importance of lifelong brotherhood. After graduating in 1960, I moved to Southern California to start my career. One day, my chapter brother, Barney Calame, was serving on a mine sweeper in Long Beach after returning from Vietnam, and I turned up at the Long Beach Naval Pier to surprise him. He was thrilled to see me, and this experience led to a wonderful lifetime close friendship with Barney and his family.”
 Annual Report 2
Malinda Matney, Michigan Chapter Counselor and member of Kappa Kappa Psi

“Serving as the Chapter Counselor for the recolonized Lambda Chapter at Michigan has been a very enriching experience. It has been exciting to see a true team develop over the past year and a half. We have a multigenerational and diverse group, all focused on developing students into leaders and gentlemen. Meeting with the undergraduate leaders and advisors (individually or as a team), is one of the most enriching aspects of my work because it gives me the opportunity to develop young leaders in the same ways I was developed as undergraduate in my own fraternity.”
Annual Report 3
Don Pearce, SMU ’65

“My experience with the Gamma Omega Chapter at SMU enriched my life immensely! As a result of holding the positions of secretary, scholarship chairman and treasurer, I learned how to work together with a diverse group of people for a common goal. It wasn’t until years later that I realized the social and leadership skills I had learned in the Fraternity had prepared me for a career in sales at IBM. I have continued to give to the Beta Leadership Fund largely because I was awarded a Foundation Merit Scholarship while attending SMU which enabled me to complete college without being a financial burden on my family. I have been fortunate to continue my career in Dallas, and it has been a real joy to witness the recolonization of the SMU Chapter. These young men of principle are carrying on the legacy of our Fraternity and forming personal relationships (much like I did) that will continue through life.”
