Since the Fraternity's founding, cultivation of the intellect has provided a basic governing principle for Beta Theta Pi. Over the years this precept has often been translated in a concern for scholarship, but it must always be remembered that the broader and more fundamental principle of general intellectual development was the ideal that the Founders envisioned.
"...We urge our members to devote themselves to the cultivation of that God-given intellect which is the crown and glory of manhood."
Every man who accepts the pledge pin of the Fraternity takes an obligation unto himself and to all Betas, that he will give serious and consistent attention to the training of his own mind. If one develops the power to select what is important in college and do well, he is likely to succeed in important activities later in life.
Of course, grades are not ends in themselves, but they are objective indicators of the quality of intellectual activity. Seldom does a student derive more from a career than is indicated by his grades.
Beta Theta Pi maintains a minimum standard of 2.7 for a chapter GPA and a 2.5 for each member.
The Men of Principle Scholarship
The Men of Principle Scholarship is $500 to help promote your chapter! Throughout the year, chapters need to develop a method for attracting the most accomplished and well-rounded male students on their campus. The Men of Principle Scholarship Grant Program, created in 1999 through generous donations to the Beta Theta Pi Foundation, was designed to do just that.
Each chapter can apply for a $500 grant to conduct The Men of Principle Scholarship recognizing outstanding gentlemen, leaders and scholars on their campus. The scholarship is not awarded to initiated members of Beta Theta Pi, but to non-Greek male students that possess the qualities and characteristics desired by Beta members. Further, applicants are not required to join Beta Theta Pi.
Be sure to capitalize on this opportunity and execute the scholarship to its fullest potential using the document below. Every chapter or colony that submits a complete application by April 1st is eligible to receive a grant! For more information and forms, please click on the button below:
